Almogia, or the 'Pretty one' as it was known to the Moors, is situated in the heart of the mountains of Malaga with a population of approximately 4,300. It is approximately 25k from Malaga and sits at 363 mts above sea level and is primarily a fairly rugged terrain populated with olives, almond trees and pines.
Almogia is well-known for its craftsmanship and is an important producer of hats, baskets, and other products derived from espart grass. Spanish soldiers during the Cuban war were well known for wearing hats derived from Almogia. These traditional products are still being produced today and exported as far as the USA
